What Are You Doing In Your Community To Help Fellow Gays?

A recent report shows that young people who identify themselves as Gay "Emos" are being brutally killed at an alarming rate in Iraq, with an estimated 750 young Gays murdered since 2006. Like many places in the Muslim world, homosexuality is extremely taboo in Iraq. Anyone perceived to be Gay is considered a fair target, and the perpetrators of the violence often go free. Still, there is the country of Uganda that has a bill that would make the death sentence mandatory for Gays who are "repeat offenders", which was reintroduced this February after an earlier attempt at passing the bill was temporarily dropped because of international pressure (mostly from Western countries like the US)-homosexuality is also taboo in many African nations. It is illegal in 37 countries on the continent, and activists say few Africans are openly gay, fearing imprisonment, violence and loss of jobs. While there are many Western nations that are more open to the idea of LGBTQ people having the same or similar rights afforded to heterosexuals, and our lives have become better in recent years, there is much, much work to be done.......

The bill has given Uganda a reputation as the 'world's homophobia capital'.

I correct people around me when they use hate speech. I tell then that if a person of color was standing next to you you would not tell or say something racist. Just as in sexuality people do not wear it on there shirt sleive. so when you say some thing anti gay you are offending friends and people you do not know. And being 6 ft 260 power lifter people tend to listen when I get pissed. treat others as u would like to be treated or shut up.

we can't change the whole worlds attitude on homosexuality..but we can help bring it to the notice of many who just bury their heads in the sand or prepared to sit back and do nothing!!

I fully back online support and help, and there are many great places for that- l feel the same about this as you do Toby- my question simply is to asked members what they are doing where they live to help support and promote Gay Rights- of course, there are many who cannot openly do support in the real world, or even seek help there, making online their only avenue, so let the question include online help and support as well. If anything, I am looking for positive things members are doing, with little notice, to make a stand and make a difference in our world- RW AND VW- while I put higher emphasis on real world support- I am certainly not trying to be inclusive. Your input on this is greatly appreciated. (side note: I am currently working on my own online Gay Boy site- including support and information, and will be linked to another members site that is exclusively for support and is non-porn)

If as you say "only action in the real world will make a true difference", then why are you here online saying what your saying, shouldnt you be out there making a difference ?........... do you not feel by just being here saying and doing does make a true difference or are you in the belief that all this is a complete waste of time ..................... online does help, it does make a difference some guys cannot freely express themselves in the real world and online is the best way for them to start to open up and then from here take it into the real world and get the support they need ..... the more help available in different mediums is a true way .......... this is not a criticism only an observation please dont take it personaly ....

Mad World? Perhaps- but the question still stands- what are you doing in your community to help your fellow Gay Brothers fight injustices that continue to plague our people? There are several members here that do support related work for GBT- but it is the real world were the "rubber meets the road" - as of this writing- the the April 20,2012 National Day of Silence is here- but when it is over- what then? Only action in the real world will make a true difference- I volunteer my time to help-how about you?

The world has gone made. Wish I had lived in the Early Greek empirewith cut guys andsexual relations with guys and boys was not just acceptable but considereda true bond of brothers and leadership. These bonds wer not just in bed but all the way to the battle field. It was the begining of democracy. My question is: WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO FREEDOM????. I hate what we have to go through this day in time - SUCKS!!!. My Best to ALL,XXOO,Andy

It is really appalling that in Uganda and other african states the christian churches often lead the way in encouraging persecution of gays and yet the Church of England condones this in desperately trying to keep the Cof E together...this is despicable

Note: A Ugandan gay rights group filed suit against an American evangelist, Scott Lively, in federal court in Massachusetts this past Wednesday, accusing him of violating international law by inciting the persecution of gay men and lesbians in Uganda. The lawsuit maintains that beginning in 2002, Mr. Lively conspired with religious and political leaders in Uganda to whip up anti-gay hysteria with warnings that gay people would sodomize African children and corrupt their culture. Mr Lively and his group have a long history in the US of comparing Gays to Nazis, and using other conspiracy theories about the "homosexual agenda," and other anti-gay activities. He has worked with, and has been defended by the American Family Association.

The US Supreme Court ruled in 2003, 6-3, that the US sodomy laws are unconstitutional and unenforceable (re: http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/02pdf/02-102.pdf) However, some of the states still attempt to get around the ruling, like Texas and Virgina and Oklahoma.
