Thoughts on AAP(American Academy of Pediatrics)new reports on circumcision...

Yesterday they released a report stating the benefits outweight the risks of circumcision. For one it "prevents std's" including HIV. Second it prevents UTI's. First off, what are your thoughts on circumcision and why? Now my thoughts, circumcision should be banned completely. The end.
Actually I could go on and on, but won't.

I once read a study that foreskins are worth about $1,000,000USD as they can use it for testing skin grafts and stem cell research. Leave it alone drs!!!

Can't believe having it done or not prevents any STI's, only being careful can do that. Having said that, I was circumcised when I was very small (I think only about 2yo, I was only just toilet-trained) because my foreskin was too tight. Even though I was so very young, I remember that it hurt when I tried to pee, so much so that it made me cry. I can't say that I've ever missed having a foreskin, it makes no difference to me, I've never been self-conscious about it, in the showers/locker room at school with my schoolfriends or at the local gym with perfect strangers, or on nudist beaches. Tbh, I can't really understand what the fuss is about ...

I know for a fact that Jews wouldn't agree, nor for that matter would Muslims, who also practice male circumcision. That does not, however, alter the fact that circumcision without valid medical reason is STILL mutilation. We don't allow religions to practice female circumcision, why, then, should we allow them to mutilate male children?

I know it hurts like a mother, I didnt have it done till I was 17 and then only because I tore my foreskin (dont laugh) with my jeans zipper. I was in great haste of not getting caught in the 3rd floor bathroom of my highschool auditoriam with a frreshman. I couldnt get it to stop bleeding so I drove myself to the er and they told me I had severly damaged the blood vessel and it had to come off. They numbed it and off it came but for the next few weeks everytime I popped a hardon it was agony!

anjinsan..an excellent report on circumcision..well done..maybe the jewish community would not agree with you as it is part of their religion and it is carried out on male babies..

Firstly, circumcision DOES NOT prevent ANYTHING. Neither HIV or any of the other STIs. There is evidence to show that it does SLIGHTLY REDUCE the chances of picking up an infection, but the decreased risk is negligible. The same applies for UTIs. The best way to significantly reduce your risk of infection is to use condoms EVERY time you have sex, whether that be with a guy OR a girl. NEVER bareback unless you are in a stable, monogamous relationship. And even then, only if you ABSOLUTELY trust your partner.

Secondly, Who commissioned this study? The American Academy of Paediatrics. The very people who have a vested interest in keeping this barbaric practice going. They are the ones who perform the surgery, they are the ones who profit from it. If you have your son mutilated at birth, the ONLY person to benefit from that assault is the surgeon. There is, in the majority of cases, no valid reason for it to be done in the 21st Century.
I agree with you that it should be banned.

I find it hard to believe it prevents contraction of HIV!
