The silence is deafening. Two old queens trying to make a few pounds ,
and a Christian couple just trying to make a living.

That says it all!

Well of course that is the response that one would expect from two old gays who have successfully supplemented their pensions. But I still ask the question - why, if the address and details of the Guest House owners were widely available on the media, should not the same details of the "complaints" be equally available, irrespective of who disclosed it?
I await your reasoning.

here is the end of the story... it is nice to be appreciated:

Thank you for signing my petition to get Nick Griffin banned from Twitter.

As you may have seen, Nick Griffin's account was suspended temporarily and reinstated with the offending tweet removed. Unfortunately Twitter have not taken further action at this stage.

I started the petition because I believe Twitter should be a forum for debate not hate. So I am heartened that over 45,000 people -- including you -- have signed their support.

I've received a message from John Morgan and Michael Black, the couple targeted by Nick Griffins tweets, who have seen the petition and wanted to pass on their personal thanks to all the signers:

"Thank you all very much for showing your opposition to Nick Griffin’s behaviour towards us. We really appreciate your support, and hope that Twitter will follow its procedures to try to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.

We’ve decided not to make a formal complaint to the police, as we understand Twitter removed the tweets as soon as Liberty asked them to, and in fact nobody from the BNP has come here to demonstrate. The local police force took the threat very seriously and kept watch on our house for the next few days.

Thank you again for your support
John Morgan and Michael Black"

Although Nick Griffin remains on Twitter, 45,000 people with messages of support for the couple have drowned out the hateful voice of one man.

Thank you for taking a stand with me,

Darren

seetsbrat - Your question is hypothetical and irrelevant. The question that the blogger asked was that if I was going to sign a petition that aimed at gagging Nick Griffin for giving the address of the gay couple when the the address fo the hotel was plastered all over the media. I said I would not, for the reasons I have given.

georgets great points you bring up and some points about this case I did not know, but let me ask you this question if I may, would you feel the same if the guest house advertised that people of mixed race could not sleep together or no blacks or Jews were welcome if this was something they beleived was wrong or didnt like? is it the fact that they specifically spelt out that they would not tolerate gays sleeping together?

No! I will not sign your petition. A Christian couple advertised their accommodation for rent. They specified that unmarried couples and homosexual couples were welcome to stay, but they would not be afforded a double room, just a twin room. The "offended" gay couple took their case to court , and were awarded cost and damages for "hurt feelings". I do not hold any affection for Nick Griffin, but, as the address of the "guilty" hotel owners were widely reported, I think it is only fair that the address of the plainents be equally available. I have more sympathy with the hotel owners that tried to uphold a principle that they believed in , than an aged gay couple that was trying it on.

If he broke twitters rule then it should not take a petition to get him off perhaps twitter gave him a warning or whatever they do for a 1st offence I dont know. And lets say for instance, exactly like this site they ban him as people have been banned from here he shows up the same day with a new account spewing the same hate as he was before. I would rather he stay and I know my enemy not allow him to take on a new identity. You have to remember people like this man are becoming the minority and not the majority as gay and human rights moves ahead. For me I want equal rights, not gay rights or straight rights "equal rights" and that includes peoples freedom of speech and freedom of opinions and that also includes his rights. We need to fight for eqaulity the only way we will do that is to have freedom of speech and expression.

If I remember correctly this couple were spread accross all the media outlets because they won their case against discrimination so if he hadn't there are plenty others that would have. Is it so different that a demonstration against a church that is against gay marriage was advertised through online media and hundreds of gay people showed up to demonstrate. Dont get me wrong I dont agree with this guy but equality is for everyone not just for the people we choose it for. I also do nit scare easy.

for my house? would not bother me - but i aint a girlyman who is scared of homophobes hahaha

the point is that he broke Twitters own rules by giving out the gay couples' home address to encourage other homophobes to demonstrate outside their house .. would you like that?

I agree with cutkiwi, he has the right to his opinion and the right to voice it, as I have the right to mine. We cant just ban people that dont agree with us. The answer to this is for people to not want to read his tweets or challange him on them. Just simply making someone vanish because they have different opinions is not right.
