I think it's awesome when LGBT couples have children by whatever means. Why not? Any studies I've ever seen have had similar, positive results. The children have little or no problems being raised by LGBT parents. They readily accept having same sex parents, and many of them are straight, contrary to the rumors that when raised by LGBT parents, children are likely to be LGBT themselves. I'm sure the same percentage of them will be LGBT as in straight families. I hope when gay marriage is finally legalized everywhere, it will encourage lots of LGBT couples to have and raise children. It will be one more step in showing the world that LGBT ppl are as normal as anyone else. My only concern is the same as tiaans79's. Like all parents, their age should be a factor in making the decision.

I think families come in all shapes, the only concern I have is his age, when he around 80 his second child will be in his teens (AFAIK) so that should be factor not his sex.
