I think Ronnie Barker was the greatest comedian in history; every single thing he ever did from The Two Ronnies to Porridge to Open All Hours was hilarious.

He also made the very wise decision to retire at the top of his fame and success.

A wag is what in the days of the Knights of the Round Table was known as a "court jester"! I would like inscribed on my tombstone "He was a bit of a wag"! hehehe lol;)

OMG! I'm shocked and surprised that no one has mentioned the greatest comedy double act of ALL TIME, past present or future. Laurel and Hardy. Pretty much all of the commedians so far mentioned would list them as being at the top, or at least very near the top of the list of their greatest comedy influences. They are undoubtedly the comedian's comedians. I have watched their films probably hundreds of times and they never fail to have me aching with laughter. Despite my knowing virtually every word and every scene, I always have tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks. I wouldn't say that Morecambe and Wise were necessarily better than The Two Ronnies, they were quite different, but equally funny. What about Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan? Also, Buster Keaton. Then there's the late great Bill Hicks. There are lots more, but I don't have the time right now to list them.

still haven't heard the definition of "wag" other than what a dog's tail does

How can it be 4pm if it is 2:47pm here?!? ...I will never understand time zones - it would be so much easier if everyone just used New Zealand Standard Time

@coolio. yes the 3 Stooges are in b&w film "shorts. They are about 20 min. long. The ones w/ Curly, before he fell ill & had to retire, were filmed at Columbia Pictures between 1935 and 1946. The 3 characters are Moe, Larry, & Curly. The comedy is classic "slapstick", very physical with lots of punching & slapping. Very funny stuff. These short films were typically shown before the feature film usually shown at Sat. matinees. There are tv stations all over the country that show the Stooges films at all times & days. Seek them out. When you see them you'll fall in love with Curly like all the rest of us bois who have never grown up! lol ;)

Try watching The Three Stooges with Curly while stoned.

Yeah. I saw Frankie Howerd in an old b & w fick w/ dotty old Dame Margaret Rutherford (Miss Marple). She was funnier than he was, only she was trying to be str8! what a hoot!

Oh, yeah Curly! How about when he would lie down on the floor on his side an spin round and round?! And his dog bark?! Priceless! I just sit back and anticipate his bits. Even tho I've seen them many times I never tire of them. You know why I think his appeal transcends age? Basically Curly was a mischievous little boy who never changed or grew up. That's why he appeals to the little boy in all of us. btw, The 3 Stooges are strictly a guy thing. Chicks don't "get" them at all! Too "lowbrow"! F--- yeah, I'm lowbrow; so lowbrow I'm in the gutter! 1. I'm F------ glad I'm a boi. 2. I'm F------ glad I'm gay! All gay bois are beautiful (except fhutcher)! lol ;)

lol forgot Dame Edna. Curly's wife fed him on a diet of apples and rice to get his weight down after his strokes. Remember his act of snapping his fingers and then hitting his palms? I still cant get that right. Poor Shemp, nobody liked him, but he had big shoes to fill.
