@jon yeah that is true. It does feel kinda icky when someone only acts nice to you when you're giving them money. Not all of them are on there for money though. Some don't even take tips at all. For the ones only on for money it's kinda like a strip bar - they aren't gonna give lap dances to strangers for free. But the conversations I was talking about were mainly with other chatters. Some of the cams have regular followings that become small communities that you see the same people coming in regularly.. But yeah it's easier here because it's smaller and people seem a lot friendlier in general and you can fast forward to the good parts on the videos here. Of course a lot of cam videos are illegally copied and posted on tube sites but that's a whole other topic for discussion.

@bam. You made some very good points. So I decided to do some "research" on Chaturbate. Tried to "chat" w/ a "performer", but got asked for a "tip" before he would even acknowledge me. @jon - oh I'm familiar chaturbate and cam4 as well. I would say this is a very different type of community here. A fast moving live chat in front of someone masturbating isn't a forum that allows a lot of depth. It's like twitter - thoughts have to be expressed in short phrases, which as you can tell, I suck at. It also tends to result in people shouting out demands, while the cammers beg for tips. Although I have seen some good discussions on both those sites and met some cool people there, so there are exceptions. It can be very addictive if you get caught up in the drama of the chats, but to me it's different than porn. It's hard for me to get turned on watching those cams because my attention is split between the chats and cammer. I'm amazed by people who can carry conversations with dozens of people, type out responses, knowing hundreds of people are watching them and still get get off. Talk about multi-tasking. I guess if I had a choice between working at mcdonalds for minimum wage or jerking off all day while hundreds of people threw money and gifts and showered me with compliments I'd probably take the latter as well lol.

Several thousand years ago, even 30 years ago, there was a much greater demand for human labor. Mechanization, robotics, computers, artificial intelligence (not to mention outsourcing) have made the many of the types of opportunities to turn talent and activity into a profession for profit obsolete. At the same time the economic demands of society have increased. The problem isn't that there's not enough wealth and goods to go around, it's that our society is still based on the old paradigm as far as survival, but there just isn't nearly as much demand for labor anymore. So we start trying to create new things to make people feel like they're doing meaningful work, but a large bulk of it is just creating widgets that don't serve any function at all. So for those not fortunate enough to have family wealth or a career that is in demand they have to exploit whatever marketable assets they have, whether it's flashing their dick on cam for tips or dressing up in a gorilla suit and holding an advertising sign for minimum wage. It's a different world now and talent, education and hard work aren't necessarily a guarantee for success anymore.

Several thousand years ago a guy called Plato wrote a book called The Republic. In this book he suggested people who show a talent for a particular activity should be encouraged to profit from that activity and it should become their profession. For example: someone who grew exceptional crops should be a farmer, someone who caught lots of fish should be a fisherman, someone who was good with numbers should be an accountant and someone who was good at teaching should be a teacher. So I wonder what Plato would make of modern man? especially the wankers, fuckers and cocksuckers who trawl the internet?
