It made the major US gay blogs yesterday. Out is sports is a big deal in the US. Even PM Cameron of the UK made positive comments.

Sorry, but it seems, my entry didn't make it into the system. So I must have another go:

The 31 y.o. ex football player (soccer for those, who are not from the country, where football originates from ;-)) Thomas Hitzlsperger came out yesterday. He played more than 50 times for the german national football team. He played in several countries, the last years in England. The surroundings in the football society are quite homophob so Hitzlsperger's step must be regarded as couragous. He also sees his coming out now in connection with the oncoming Olympic Games in Russia and he want's to make a statement against the horrid anti gay laws in Russia and other countries.

There is a wide spread discussion going on in german papers and blogs (e.g. www.spiegel-online.de). I didn't check the english sites.
