Firstly I want to apologize for all the unanswered mail and wall messages I have gotten, this has been a tough year for trying to spend any time here on GBT let alone answer friend’s messages. So I hope this will suffice as my backlog of communication and an update of where we are currently in our lives. As most of you know my boyfriend and I spent the summer attending Charles University in the beautiful city of Prague Czech Republic which happens to be his birthplace. We stayed for almost 5 months with his grandparents while attending school they were great hosts and treated me as family and were amazing concerning my relationship with their grandson. We also spent some time in the UK with my dad and his new family. We came back to our work and studies here in Florida at the beginning of October very tired and way behind in both our financial affairs and schooling (thank god for parents and our jobs) On Christmas day 2012 my high school sweetheart of nearly 7 years surprised me with a ring and asked me to marry him, I of course accepted. Excited I called my dad in the UK to share my good news to my surprise he was not only upset he reacted angrily and said if we were to get married he would not come to the wedding and he would withdraw his financial support for my schooling. We were both pretty angry with each other and I hung the phone up on him. I blogged on here asking for advice, I got plenty of it and a lot of support. I was in a state of shock as I am now, and have always been very close to my family even though my parents divorced and moved 4,500 miles apart. Both my parents had until then always been very supportive of my relationship and my lifestyle and fully accepted my bf as their own. A lot of people told me to do it anyway and I was prepared to do just that, then my bf said we should wait and give my dad time to come around (he has always been the level headed one) and after a lot of disagreements between us I decided to take his advice. During the summer we spent time with my dad both in London and on his visits to us in Prague at the end of one of those visits he took us to dinner and asked us if we still felt the same about wanting to marry I told him yes but we didn’t want to do it without his approval. To my surprise he told us he was wrong and he would support our marriage and he would be proud to have Misha as a son in law, wow I was taken back but really happy we all hugged and he invited us both to spend Christmas with him and bought our plane tickets. When we arrived in the UK before Christmas we applied for the license and did our mandatory waiting time. So on January 1st 2014 we were married (Civil Union which converts to marriage in March 2014) at my dad’s house in London. The only thing left to do now is to marry here in either New York or New Hampshire this spring with my Mother and my BF parents in attendance. Sorry for the long communication I have been trying for over a week to cut this down and post lol. Stees xx
