This documentary was really touching, especially the interview with 'Marie' later on. It's so counterintuitive to think that for people who ARE transgender in Iran, a positive situation has existed for them ever since Khomeini was struck by a meeting with a transgender person and issued a fatwa allowing sex reassignment. For the other 45% of people who get the operation there (says the film) who are just simply gay but are bullied into a sex change, it's horrifying. What an evil policy! The thing that really hit me was the fact that there are apparently seven countries in the world, including Iran, where homosexuality is punishable by death. I'm so grateful to all the campaigners in past decades in our Western countries who stood up at great personal risk, enduring prison, beatings and worse, to create the comparatively free and open situation we enjoy now. Heroes.
