@ZanyZander I'm a humanist, and as such I do think about the moral responsibility I have for the fact that my country drops bombs on the innocent, overthrows democracies, supports dictatorships, engages in torture, pollutes and poisons the environment, and exploits labor around the globe, all for the further enrichment of a few parasites who have too damn much to begin with. That those considerations never enter your consciousness is your individual tragedy, but that this astonishing lack of empathy is so prevalent throughout the west's elites is the world's catastrophe. Additionally, your disgustingly narrow concept of patriotism proves that Dr. Samuel Johnson was right, it is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

How exactly are you going to enforce your communist utopias? Just convince people by rambling on and on?! SERIOUSLY?! Jesus. That (and by your own words) is not how the world works. You know nothing about human nature nor respect it.

Excellent reading! ¶ Thank you, Doc, for pointing out that the Soviet Union (USSR) and Cuba were not truly communist, but rather brutal dictatorships. And for detailing (for those who care to read and to research) that the United States has had a 100-year history of “backing the wrong horse” when it came to other nations in its own hemisphere. ¶ "Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber." — Plato ¶ And (someone maybe can correct me, I thought the following idea also came from Greek philosophy, but can't find that exact quote): "It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it... anyone who is capable of getting himself made President should on no account be allowed to do the job." — Douglas Adams

Did you just accuse me of living in peace and prosperity and thinking that life is good?! Never at any other time have there been more people free from tyranny. On a side note no matter how many times you try to point out some organization setting up cruel governments at the end of the day it is those regimes who are responsible for controlling their citizens at the barrel of a gun. Not the Americans who have made all of the sacrifices that you hold in contempt. You are neither enlightened or clever. You have discovered nothing that the rest of the world does not know about. You have contributed nothing to the betterment of mankind. You are not pure because you are poor. You are dependent on either the government or someone else since you have claimed you make no significant amount of money. You are a traitor of the highest order not just the United States but to humanity. You are a leach. You should be stripped of your abilities to teach and called out for exactly who you are.

@ZanyZander You keep repeating the mantra that capitalism is not perfect, but that fact never makes you examine the full, on-going costs of your economic religion. I gave a partial list in an earlier post, but those mass graves make no moral impression on you. So I quote Mr. Zimmerman: "How many deaths will it take 'till he knows, that too many people have died?" But who cares about all that as long as my stock in Halliburton, Brown & Root, and the oil companies keeps rising. Life is good!

There's no reason to lie about what I said in order to make your lies true. I never once said everything was fine everywhere. I'm just pointing out who wants to surrender theirs and everyone else's freedom and prosperity to death and failure. You are absolutely right. Capitalism is not perfect. But the other options are even worse. Sorry babe, I'm the one with history and facts on my side. Again there seems to be a refusal to admit that it is CRONY capitalism that has been the problem and not government holding you by the balls. You know how you are not standing in the woods naked? Yeah, freedom and capitalism. You don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. You are the dangerous one. Everyone suffers under your ideas.

@ZanyZander Well Zany, you could certainly qualify for the SPECIAL Olympics of mental gymnastics. You seem to believe that if everything is ok in your little world then it must be alright everywhere else. Sadly, that just isn't true. Much of the world is a slaughterhouse, and continues to be so because of the very predatory capitalism you mistakenly equate with freedom. Whose "freedom" to do what to whom? Additionally, your memory is as impaired as your reading skills. I wrote several blogs ago that man's deliberate inhumanity to man for profit does indeed make me angry, as it should any normal person, and the hypocritical rationalizations of Panglossian shitheads like you do indeed make me furious. I'm a teacher, and I happily chose my profession knowing that one does not get wealthy through it. I harbor no jealousy or ill will toward financially successful people, so long as that success has not been purchased at the price of someone else's exploitation, dehumanization, or murder. But to your tiny mind, that makes me an "Angel of Death." So, how's life these days in Wonderland, Alice? Many of the people you write about in our armed forces do indeed have their "minds blown" by their experiences serving the interests of the "Deep State." They come home chastened by the brutal reality of a world in which profit takes precedence over people, and feel appalled by their participation in America's endless wars for lies and power. Perhaps if you had the slightest clue about what "extraordinary rendition" means, and how its regularly employed as an instrument of state policy, you wouldn't be so quick to absolve this government of plutocratic prostitutes of their unending crimes against humanity. Should you ever wish to get a sense of what American foreign policy is really about, I suggest that you google a powerful speech by Iraq war veteran Michael Prysner, although you'll probably have as much difficulty understanding his heartfelt words as you evidently do comprehending mine.

@ZanyZander Man, the deflectors just go on whenever this guy reads something. I have to seriously doubt he even reads the responses to his rambling. What color is the sky in his world, I wonder?

As I said this is a VERY angry doctor who clearly does not like the U.S. or peace and prosperity achieved through freedom and capitalism. Of course more peace and prosperity was achieved for more people from more walks of life than any other system and I don't have to do the olympics of mental gymnastics in order to realize or relate that to the rest of the world. Oh, and Dr. Mora PhD (it is hard to type that without laughing by the way), in case you haven't noticed the U.S. has a problem of too many people entering the U.S. in such a short amount of time. Seems strange for such a horrible place that you have gone to profound lengths of demonizing in every imaginable way. Of course, it probably has more to do with one's imagination than anything else. If your answers are for more over reaching government, then why are you such a miserable malcontent? Aren't the problems fixed at this point in history? In one breath you agree that there is such thing as horrible governments yet coward at the feet of people who want to give you just that. How many more thousands of years are your ideas supposed to take before they work? Is that the best your education and intellect can do for is to be full of jealousy for those who are successful in life? I'm more interested in helping people and wishing them well than finding a government that will punish those who win. Why are you so bent on hurting well to do people? As I said you seem more like an Angel Of Death than any good doctor who wants to help people. Not all of these people want to have crazy genocides, crony capitalists, and horrible governments. I think most people in the U.S. army would have their minds blown that they are somehow supporting these ideas you eschew and it would be news to them. I personally think your are driven to the point of madness because you cannot bare the fact that someone has pulled their citizenry out of the misery, disease, early deaths, torture chambers, poverty, and dependancies on someone else by practicing and implementing freedom and capitalism. You can rest assured that I care about people everywhere from all walks of life and have no interest in them suffering. I'm sorry you think that of so many that have made so much possible.

@JohnE As you said, Venezuela is a third world country, which has had a limited form of democratic socialism for less than 20 years. During that time, public education has increased adult literacy rates from under 20% to over 98%, a tremendous achievement in any poor country. The Bolivarian Revolution begun under Hugo Chavez also provided access to free medical care to millions of people, many of whom had never seen a doctor before. We should also remember that this democratically-elected government was subjected to hostile military acts on its border by Colombia, an egregious human rights violator that receives the hemisphere's largest amount of U.S. aid, and that the U.S. fomented an unsuccessful coup d'état against President Chavez. The recent downturns in the Venezuelan economy are largely due to the plummeting of worldwide oil prices, and the reluctance of the Maduro government to stem the tide of capital flight from the country. But if 20 years of limited progress in Venezuela is "an epic fail for socialism," how can one accurately describe the performance of decades of capitalism throughout the third world? Did a century of capitalism do anything to alleviate the poverty of the Venezuelan people? How about that of the Haitians, Dominicans, Guatemalans, El Salvadorans, Hondurans, or any of the citizens of dozens of countries unfortunate enough to fall under the boot of transnational predatory capitalism? The pattern throughout the third world is astonishingly clear, to anyone with the honesty to simply see it. A tiny sliver of wealthy indigenous elites dominate an impoverished population, protected by a brutal military dictatorship, who are funded and trained by the United States, with the overwhelming majority of economic benefits going to foreign investors. This paradise for global elites, which has allowed 62 billionaires to amass more wealth than 3.7 billion people, is your idea of "success?" Your Western European examples of Spain and Greece are similarly flawed, as well as selectively chosen. The citizens of both countries only recently elected "left of center" governments, in response to the devastating economic crises caused by the prior government's adherence to the dictates of global capital. Sadly, the new governments in Greece and Spain have bowed to the austerity conditions imposed by the IMF, and reneged on the promises that got those governments elected. This too demonstrates another key component of the neo-liberal agenda--to transfer decisions concerning economics away from democratically-elected governments and into the hands of unelected and unaccountable global capitalists. The "mass invasion of hostile young Islamic men" into Western Europe is again a response to decades of despicable western interference in the Islamic world, overthrowing democracies and undermining democratic movements, supporting dictators, and creating a perpetual war zone with millions of casualties as a result. To me, the only surprising thing about this exodus is that it took so long to occur. In a myriad of ways, the third world nightmares created by insatiably greedy western elites over the last century are beginning to arrive with a vengeance on the doorsteps of the European "homeland." Isn't karma a bitch?

@DrM. Castro was fully backed and funded by the Soviets. And what about Venezuela then? A largish although admittedly 3rd world country with some of the World's biggest oil reserves, where now even toilet paper is in short supply? An epic fail for socialism. As for Europe, the ideal of Democratic Socialism has resulted in laudable results including free education and healthcare, however 40%+ youth unemployment in Spain and even higher in Greece. Couple this with a mass invasion of hostile young Islamic men who have zero interest in assimilating into the culture of their host countries and Europe looks far from healthy. There's a sweet-spot between Capitalism and Socialism that we need to find and adhere to because neither one can exist successfully without the other. Both however are infinitely preferable to creeping Sharia, which the left seem intent upon enabling as a foil to evil Western Capitalism.

@JohnE Marx and Engels correctly argued that the material basis for a successful socialist revolution would only be possible in wealthy countries. At the time they were writing, that meant England, France, Germany, and the United States. They would have been the first to tell you that socialism would not work properly in countries as poor as Cuba was in 1959, particularly given the savage reprisals experienced by the Cuban revolution at the hands of the world's most powerful country, just 90 miles away. The Cuban Revolution only survived because it was a brutal dictatorship, which I absolutely oppose in any form, and because for its first twenty years, it received massive financial assistance from the Soviet Union, another brutal dictatorship. Again, however, Democratic Socialism is doing spectacularly well today throughout Western Europe, and the U.S. certainly possesses the resources to successfully implement it here. We need only have the intelligence and the will to act in the interests of the vast majority of our citizens.

Nice to quote George Carlin but I always prefered this one; They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fuckin’ years ago. They don’t want that. You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your fuckin' retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later 'cause they own this fuckin' place. It’s a big club and you ain't in it. You and I are not in the big club. ...The table is tilted, folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. ...And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. That’s what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes every day, that you won’t realize just how bad your getting fucked by the 1%, because they, the owners of this country know the truth. It’s called the American Dream, 'cause you have to be asleep to believe it.

"Sooner or later, the people in this country are gonna realize the government does not give a fuck about them! The government doesn't care about you, or your children, or your rights, or your welfare or your safety. It simply does not give a fuck about you! It's interested in its own power. That's the only thing. Keeping it and expanding it wherever possible. " -George Carlin
