I was at work doing stuff outside when suddenly i felt really lightheaded and nauseaous, so i went to the mechanics bathroom to sit down and felt really hot n sweaty. i mananged to get up and lay down on this bench the techs use to change clothes, and one tech comes in and asks what im doing. Said I didnt feel good, then he gets the service manager. Thought at first it was just heat exhaustion, but after they ran me to the local ER, and after having a shit load of tests, they told me I have an irregular heartbeat, plus my sugar lever is high, which doesnt surprise me cause both my parents are diabetic. So they sent me home with two prescrips, one for blood thinner and one to regulate my heartbeat. Odd at my age, but its whatever. So now I gotta take it easy and rest this weekend. Ain't that a kick in the butt!!!!!!!!!!

I've not met you before...  but I'm sorry to hear what's happened. I just want to wish you well.  I'm 43, and recently sufferred a 4th mini stroke. Not too pleasant but now I'm restricting myself to how much work I do each day.  Good luck, and may your recovery be speedy ;)  -- Jordan.

It's really best to work with your cardiologist on determining the cause of your AF. Then if the use of a blood thinner is prescribed, be honest with your doctor. Tell him/her that cost is a consideration, especially if treatment will be on-going. Follow directions! I was first diagnosed with cardio myopathy when I was 19 years old. I have been medicated for almost 30 years now. Most my conditions requiring drugs have been managed well. The structural problems with my heart have been surgically repaired. Sadly, I have now developed congestive heart failure, yet I remain healthy... because I listen to my doctors and do what they say.

███....Aspirin is the cheapest blood thinner...(cents..!!..)...BUT.....30mg/day...NOT the (occasional.)..300mg...which is for painkilling,(once in a while..)..and SMALL doses,may lift your "mood"....unlike Warfarin...(rat-poison)..which does a great job...(in SMALL ...3mg..doses..)...but can make U feel like shit.....Aspirin is a (man-made..??..) ester of Salicylic acid..which is a natural chemical..found in "Willow bark"..known to cure, for hundreds of years.....(Chemical nerd info # 56..)........DONT over-do the dose..!!..(disclaimer # 43..!!..).......DAVE™.....███

Consider asking for warfin therapy. I know it's scary because people consider it to be rat "poison", (it is used to kill rats, by making them bleed out)) but it is very effective and not nearly as costly as the newer drugs on the market. Another draw back to the newer classes of blood thinners is it's not easy to reverse the effects in an emergency. Monthly testing of you INR is a good thing. Having your condition monitored as often as possible will only benefit you. I live with chronic AF and have an artificial heart valve, so I will take a blood thinner for the rest of my life. Once your INR level is managed, you should have lots of clot protection, and few other problems. Your first dosing and the next few months are the scariest, there is the potential for bleeding, but it rarely happens (except in  my case, but that's another story).

Thanks everyone for caring. I'm on a heart med now to regulate the beats, but they wanted way too much money for the blood thinner, so friends are looking into herbal/natural supplements like garlic or cayenne peppers in capsule form. I've had many friends either calling or txting to see how I'm doing, and thats a great feeling. I know when guys on here have had problems, we have been there for them, so i really appreciate all the advice, thoughts n prayers from our family here on GBT! You guys rock!

Don't stop there.  Go see your primary care provider and have him take over your management of this problem.  If you don't have a primary care provider, find one via google, looking for an internal medicine doctor in a clinic near you.  Atrial fibrillation and being on plavix or eliquis isn't anything to fuck around with, but there are literally dozens of reasons why you had an irregular heart rhythm, such as simple things like an electrolyte imbalance to an anatomical or physiologic abnormality in the heart.  It behooves you to take the next step to figure out the WHY now, not just sit back and take your meds.  Ask your primary care doctor if you need an echocaridiogram and my hunch is he'll say you do.
