Locker room preference

mirish7 Blog Last Activity 8 years ago 972 views 23 comments

Have noticed at my US college gym locker room, most alums, like myself, staff, and older guys tend to disrobe entirely and walk nude to shower or sauna with towel in hand.  Undergrads, to my disappointment (LOL), tend to change underneath towels like at a beach and/or wear underwear or even more to go to the stall showers or sauna.   Your preference and why?

well as you get older you get more comfortable with your body. It's just that simple. Hell my dickwas swinging in the locker room in 10th grade

XYlover that is how I felt too. An over the top macho loud gym rat. LOL But in exaggerated way sadly summed up some young guys feelings in American gyms I think.

Thanks mirish7 for the link. (I had contradictory? instincts while watching the video: 1) I found him to be a supreme a-hole; but, 2) I couldn't keep my eyes or ears off of him.)

Quite a divide in my gym. Young guys cover up, older guys let it all hang out. Shame!!!

our society has a hang-up with nudity and sharing locker rooms. i never showered in school, but our schools had the coolest looking shower rooms that had to be a blast in their day. i do notice at the Y back home it is the older guys that are more relaxed naked. younger guys wear their swim suits to shower. and from what i observe...everybody looks.

when going to sauna -believe me or not- I'm doing it in a traditional way as Finnish and Swedish people do. Mostly after excercise. Always naked and there is nothing to do with sexuality, just relaxing my body.
Saunas in Asian big cities like Bangkok or Manila is a different story... only by the name and what you can do in there. My friends told me :)

That is another interesting point of view playswithboys. You might have a point about downside of the higher profile of gays in society today. A couple of years ago, someone looking in the US military photo archives discovered a whole batch of naked photos of men in military during WW2 taken by the military photographers. He put out at lease two photo books with "At Ease" in the title. I guess in a primarily all guy environment many of them were caught embracing and showing their bonding in somewhat intimate contact with one another. In meantime, we are stuck with this guys viewpoint I found on youtube:

As a millennial, we only had to shower for swimming in high school, and even then everybody would just wear their trunks because before that we only ever changed shorts and shirts for gym. When we had to change into trunks, everyone would do the towel shuffle thing. Obviously I wish it weren't so (especially because my insanely gorgeous friend was right next to me and I could have snuck a peek otherwise!) but I was also self conscious being out of shape and uncut when most guys were cut. But I think it's a product of the times. Back in the '50s and 60s (from what I hear), there were no restrictive definitions to behavior, and boys could skinny dip and do all kinds of stuff like that without anyone questioning their sexuality. I think it's an unfortunate side effect of the gay rights movement that once homosexuality was a household concept, it caused society to clearly define behavior into straight and gay categories; there was no longer a grey area. Now everyone has to go to great lengths to prove how straight they are, especially young guys who are still figuring themselves out (and IMO almost all dealing with attraction to their peers at that age). That's why studies say boys are having SIGNIFICANTLY less experimentation today than a few decades ago. When even the slightest show of affection gets you forever branded "gay", you're terrified to think of being naked with other guys or, god forbid, trying to initiate a little experimentation. Just look at some of the mutual wank videos on here, I remember one where they had a pillow between them to block each other and were still continuously saying how gay it was. Also, I feel like as the Boomer generation grew up through the civil rights era, they grew to resent the cognitive dissonance of their young experimentation in that free era. With the new, entrenched ideas of distinct sexualities, those experiences threatened their straightness and so they went on to pass on destructive attitudes to younger generations.

FFS, if you're not gay, you could suck 100 dicks and get pounded in the ass and you're still not going to be gay. No act is gay by definition or can make you gay. Only people are gay. Of course I'm preaching to the choir here, lol.

TLDR: I wish my generation were less modest but it's the consequence of increased visibility of LGBT and therefore entrenchment of non-fluid ideas of sexuality that force boys to identify with a rigid definition of the accepted sexuality, when they should be exploring their budding sexuality. This is something that really bothers me because there are so many sexy guys I know who are otherwise open-minded but have this huge mental block about blurring the lines of sexuality. Now, the way to reinforce your straightness is by saying "I'm totally cool with gay people, because I'm comfortable with my straightness" as if only homophobes can be hiding feelings. The game has changed. I do my best to break down these rigid definitions with the people I know. The real future of sexuality, IMO is fluidity. I find it hard to believe anyone is 100% anything, although many disagree.

Agree Timmyboy with your points. Arryboy sees a different attitude in England toward nudity in locker room. American boys look to be more uptight nowadays.

As I am training to be a sports instructor/ P.E.teacher I spend a lot of time in shower rooms and find most English guys are not bothered about covering up which is good for my eyesight....I also don't wear anything in those areas of college but have to think of mundane things to avoid getting a stiffy..haha

I'm at the point in my life that I don't care who sees me. I don't have anything different than any other male, just a different size. Nudity in the US is all together different than it is in Europe.

Because all Men and Women...boys and girls are all BI or secretly gay.....and most cannot come to terms with that they have to live a lie.....and we are all afraid being judged so we all judge other people to cover up our insecurities...I am gay and I love being gay...but I could never let that be known to the public....

Hey, XY, I know what you mean. In my case, not only was I scared of a potential boner, my uncut weenie got lots of atttention in a small town where 95% of the boys were cut. Uncut and gay in the middle school (junior high, back then) was a disaster just waiting to happen. Hate it you had scars to hide. Mine were inside, but just as bad, thanks to dad. This is one of the reasons I joined this community. Gay boys - I really mean boys - need our support and love. It's a porn site, I know, but things being the way they are, they need to know there are people who love them and won't exploit them sexually or in any other way.

Thanks XY for commenting. I am so very sorry you had to endure belt-whipping welts & scars. I am voting for those doing the "towel dance" are just trying to conceal potential for a huge woody instead of adding to the # of self-loathing gay religious conservatives.

I can't say anything, because in junior-high P.E. (middle-school phys-ed / gym) I was so shy that I *didn't* shower at the end of the period.... (Several things, mainly shyness, awareness of my attraction to boys (thus potential erections), and sometimes belt-whipping welts & scars thanks to daddy.) ¶ But just a joke: some of those that change under towels, might turn out in future decades to be our homophobic (but secretly self-loathing homosexual) Conservatives of tomorrow?!

I will wear swim shorts in the shower and wrap myself with a towel. It is not that I am afraid to be seen. It is more that I am concerned about getting an erection in front of everybody.

They don't want you looking at them or sneaking pics

What is up with the US undergrads and younger guys being so damn shy now a days in locker area? It is not like I am standing there oogling them, breathing extra heavy and drooling while packing a huge hard on, LOL :O
