I am asking for opinions

Every year I take my staff and their spouse and or partner or date out to a plush eatery in the area for a Christmas Party. I also buy them something special. Now this dinner usually costs me around $125 per person and I have a staff of 15 so I am not talking McDonalds here. My Medical Assistant and Office manager have been with me for years and have husbands who are used to and expecting this event. The others have been her significantly less time. I have no problems continuing the tradition but I was wondering with todays economey should I consider just a monitary bonus of what I would have spent on each of them? Then Take my office manager and Medical Assistant and spouses out as always and give them a bonus? I am unsure, I know that people can use extra this year more than they can use a prime rib dinner and booze.

give all employees a 100.00 gift certificate...take you special employees out to dinner also..you save some money and all should be happy..

Yeah - most people plan New Year's well in advance, but if you still want to do something with them as a group, you can liven up January or February by taking them out.

Well it seems like everyone was quite happy with their bonus! I am very pleased but no one wants to do a NEW YEARS EVE party. seems that they all have other plans or whant to stay home with family. So once again I'll be spending it alone.

I'd say take out all or none - these events should be to help staff get along better but if you pick and choose, it would be a disaster for your office. If you don't want to have the party give bonuses that are calculated by time in service. This time being politically correct is the best option or you may have a social/work disaster on your hands. Might need a fellow protologist to get an employess foot out of your ass -GOOD LUCK

By the way stees last year I spent new years eve at Universal Studios Florida. The fireworks were fantastic at the 12:00 countdown over the lake

Stees I would gladly hire you in a split second but there is a reason that I have only women working for me. I know who I am, IF I had a hot looking boy like Stees working for me it wouldnt be very long before I would be in court with a sexual harrasment lawsuit filed against me. I would never be able to keep my hands off of him.

I have decided after talking to my office manager this morning in private (Carol has been with me since I started) I am giving everyone a cash bonus for Christmas the amount will be depending on years of service a Honeybaked Ham. Also I will he hosting a KILLER New Years eve Party for everyone and their 1. Bonus' will not be trival the least anyone will get is $500. I feel They deserve it. After all without all their hard work and efforts I am just a doctor. Its like an engine without a car. ( I know this sounds really bad to say but also it's all tax deductable until Obama screws it up)

I think you should take everyone out to dinner as you usually do. Employees will talk and will talk badly if you change what is normally expected. If you are going to change what you normally do at Xmas time, then you need to explain to your employees either in a group of individually why you are changing what you normally do this year. Otherwise, the employees are left to wonder and gossip with each other as to what is going on with you this year.

Whatever my vote counts for :P - i still say a family sort of thing wuld be best; dont forget Mr Pickles although they dont say anthing to u bout it (cause no one wants to seem ungrateful), yr staff have to arrange babysitters an if its a work nite have to drag themselves out of bed the next day; a weekend event with the kiddies in a informal setting may be what 15/15 peeps wuld love. Just ask discretly an see what they say - u may be surprised :)

Trust me ... the cash will light up a lot of staff faces this year.

Make it an anonymous vote lol

Im afraid if I let a vote be taken then it will start an arguement in the office. Those who want the party and those who want the cash. I will just have to decide.

my suggestion would be to ask them to vote on what they would prefer and let majority rule

Your team may prefer and be grateful of a bonus. Taking your team for dinner is a very nice gesture. But you may be right to change the tradition now when people need money more than ever.

I'd suggest giving them a cash bonus .. a lot of people have been struggling, with the economy being as it is. This probably is a year where cash is better than a dinner out.

You could give them the choice, if money isnt the issue.Yes, people often, could do
with extra cash at Xmas, but some of your newer staff might still prefer to have a nice
meal out and enjoy themselves. When i was younger, the Annual Restaurant outing
was something to look forward to . I always remembered them but having less money
around Xmas was often just a reality and a good night out with workmates was awesome,
and we often hit the pubs and Niteclubs later..lol

Its someone that takes and tests your blood like a nurse etc but I think a bit more specialised venipuncture is the medical term for injecting the needle to extract the blood
