Pets

Yesterday I had to do the most heart breaking thing, I had to have 1 of my pet dogs put to sleep after almost 12 years of unconditionly love. I relieze that it was the best thing for him because his poor old body just couldn't take it any more but it hurts so bad right now with I think about him. It also gives me great comfort to now know he's not suffering any more and he's in that big dogy kennel in the sky and is running around with his friend , our other dog that was also put to sleep last year. I have no shame what so ever in admitting I cried like a baby all day yesterday.

Had 2 German Shepherd dogs when I was younger and due to old age and cancer I had to have them put down (at different times) - the hurt was so bad I won't now have a pet as much as I would love to have another GS.

Firstly, Shanev... I just want to say how sorry I am for your loss. I understand how it feels too. There's nothing wrong with crying either... in a way, pets are like family (that's how I feel about them lol). The main thing now is to remember the good times, and cherish those memories... as that's one thing can never be taken from you. Secondly, I just want to wish you all the best for the future. Take care and thank you for having the courage to share the news with us all here :)

He still seems pretty happy to me. He is still playful and likes to go on walks and hasn't lost his appetite at all.

Really sorry for your loss. I'm preparing for the very same thing. My 9-year-old Malamute mix is suffering from a spinal chord generative disease where the spinal chord gets progressively thinner increasingly impeding signals from the brain to the limbs to pass through properly. He was diagnosed in late 2012 and gave him 6 months to a year until he completely lost the ability to walk. Miraculously, he's still around and walking! He's a bit wobbly and stumbles once in a while, but can still go for short walks and is able to stand to eat and seems pretty happy. The only medication he's taking is Tramadol for muscle pain, because he strains more than normally to walk and move about. I'm thankful that he's still around, but we're gonna have to put him down once it becomes unbearable for the poor thing. I can't even imagine the pain that you're going through. I will miss him a lot. Anyway, take care! :-)

after mika I got a frame (mika's pic is in it) from a puppy friend, with a quote "if tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd climb right up to heaven and bring you back again...enjoy the memories

shanev, sorry for your loss, it's hard, I put Mika to rest almost 5 years now, you have to think of their quality of life over your love for them, mika I got 14 days after Mandi (9 1/2 years) went to puppy heaven...and had 13 1/2 years of love...always keep them in your heart and mind, THEY ARE FAMILY too

@mark. Same with me. Had one dog. When I lost him, it was so painful, traumatic, and heart wrenching that I swore never again. Forego the pleasure to avoid the pain.

same thing happened to me years ago when living at home with my parents. we had a springer spaniel since a pup for years and he became ill and had cancer and went blind in one eye. it was so sad to see him suffer so me and my dad went to the vets and put him to sleep. it wasnt fair to carry on. but at least his pain and suffering went. we never had another dog since cos you grow so attached to them.

The Rainbows Bridge Poem

RainbowBridge.com
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
