@ yrtrufriend...thanks for the reply. I agree with most of your stance below Ron, and what you sent me privately, but I find it infuriates me that most voters here and the USA, only remember the bad things a politician has done and never the good things. You know, here in Canada, we pay almost a total 50% of our wages in taxes at all levels, Municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal. But for that we have MANY excellent social benefits, 3 federal pensions for the elderly, an amazing health care system that lets no one fall through the cracks for the better part.

Our Conservatives here, are by no means as right of center as your Republicans. We look for moderates close to Center not right or left..our Green party is about the Environment, New Democrat Party is way too far left, and the Liberals are pretty much centrist, but they always get in and spend, spend, spend, then the PC's get in and cut, cut, cut, lol! (I am a social Liberal, fiscal Conservative and like you an Independent)

Like you, I WORKED HARD ALL MY LIFE FOR WHAT I HAVE. I RETIRED AT 51. I don't believe the poor are there because they want to be, or are lazy, and hearing comments like this infuriate me, and that is why I jumped on your post, but are victims of circumstance mostly. Mental illness, systemic neglect, drug addiction, ignored veterans who return home and the Government thanks them for their service, now dumps them on the street with zero assistance, left to charities to help them. Most don't want or need a HAND-OUT, but seek a HAND-UP. There is a big difference We both do community work, and I wish more did. We have some great people on this site VERY involved in issues close to them.

How does a person on the street apply for a job and if he gets a reply, to what address does he have it sent? Poverty is systemic, and I having cooked in soup kitchens and listening to some of the stories. Women with kids who get separated from abusive husbands, and have no place to go, or get financial support with out an address. yes please send my Welfare cheque to the second park bench on the right in the park, says one woman?

it IS the responsibility of Government's and it's people to look after the less fortunate, elderly and sick. A country that claims to be the greatest country in the world ISN'T anymore. You spend more on military, your corrupt intelligence networks, and space programs (which by the way are 90% military), than you do on programs to help people like veterans, health care, pensions etc. Obama care is a good start, it isn't perfect but with fine tuning it can be one of the greatest assets to the American people.
I am told about 39%of Americans pay income tax Federally, and I don't believe you have a national sales tax. Taxes are needed to rebuild infrastructure, and assist programs such as veterans. Those with jobs like the majority middle class have to pay, that's just the way it is, but cowardly politicians don't, for fear of getting voted out next election. It's the same here, now, people don't matter , their political asses do. here in Canada our disgrace is the treatment of our native peoples, in USA it is the blacks.

Far too much money is handed to the corrupt out of control Intelligence network in the USA, FBI, CIA , NSA, and your military. NSA spying on Allies? WTF. Truman and Eisenhower gave them too much power as did GW Bush. Speaking of idiots....

As for our mayor Rob Ford you asked, and his arrogant bully brother Doug, The sooner they both leave politics the better for Torontonians. Doug now ponders a run for the Ontario Provincial Conservative leadership and sadly his brother Rob is not expected to survive the cancer he has.

I have watched politics since I was a kid, and maybe you don't know this about me Ron, I have been a "JFK researcher" since I was 18.(please don't mistake that term for JFK "conspiracy theorists", although it was lol!)I can back up what I say with evidence.

What I will say is the USA ceased to be the greatest country in the world November 22nd 1963. I'll post that issue shortly.

as I said before a great country is judged by it compassion for it's people, wherever they stand, be it poor, ill, elderly, veterans (who I deeply respect) mentally sick, school bullying programs, and I just don't think the USA is doing as good as a job as they could be. Just don't pick on the poor, it pisses me off Royally lol! ( and by the way I acknowledge SOME are loafers, even generations in some families)

I agree 2chill2trip. Close our borders and take care of our own people first. Darkknightreturns I respect your opinion as I do with most people. I have what I have today because I worked hard my whole life...I have no college degree but worked hard and was always a good provider for my family..I have lots of black friends and most of them work hard and go to school and are bettering themselves. they hate the saggers walking down the streets just looking to cause trouble..I do alot of work in my community and especially with Veterans..I do seminars in schools and see who wants to learn and who doesn't. I agree that Cheney and Rumsfeld sucked and were a terrible influence on George Bush. I was only in the Military due to the draft but made the best of it...I am a proud Vietnam Vet and no I don't get free medical benefits...I pay my own since I retired. Maybe more people should be like me and give back to their community like I do. Everyone has the same opportunity today but only some take advantage of it...I hope and pray that you are one of them.

To say that all poor people are lazy would be like saying that all rich people are greedy.

@yrtrufrnd you said, "The poor will always be poor because they are lazy and uneducated and don't want to work. Look who are on the lines at food banks and the welfare office and social security." ...Right gotcha. And when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves, blacks couldn't get jobs, schooling or housing. To this day for them, there is economic slavery, educational slavery, and housing slavery that has never been eliminated. I guess you are one of the chosen ones in the military that get health benefits. It can be paid for as it is here, through taxes. We have a 5% federal sales tax that compassionately helps those less fortunate in our system. You don't have one right? Lets start on the corporate welfare Republicans love to support. GE has paid zero taxes in many years. A billion$ corporation. Let us not forget also George W Bush was the worst president you ever had. He was nothing more than daddies puppet, and through Cheney and Rumsfeld, Daddy Bush got a third and fourth term lmao! W was a laughing stock. A country is judged on how it looks after its elderly, sick and poor, but hey you're doing alright correct? fuck everyone else!

the Democrats want ALL free programs and giveaways with no way to pay for them. Let's hope the Republicans will change things around and create jobs and get rid of ALL of these illegals that are draining our economy. I fought in a war for people's freedom and they always turn around and spit in our face...I was a Democrat and now I am a Republican. Look who are online at the polls to vote Democrat...Obama will go down in history as the second worst President ever after Jimmy Carter. He got into Office with absolutely no experience in anything and was voted in by all those looking for a free ride...my friends, there are no free rides. Someone pays for these free programs and unfortunately everything Government touches turns to shit. The poor will always be poor because they are lazy and uneducated and don't want to work. Look who are on the lines at food banks and the welfare office and social security.

PT Barnum once said that nobody ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American people. This election proves it.

You know, as an impartial Canadian looking in, I understand the frustration of the electorate with a lack of progress on issues, BUT let us not forget, Obama walked into 2 wars that the American people had no desire to finance or lose their brave men and women to. He walked into a fiscal tanking of the economy Thanks to W, and handled the recovery very well. As for GM, he saved the auto industry in USA, and the many jobs. They have since paid back the money they were loaned. They are under investigation for not acting on the "switch" issue that caused many deaths and injuries. The banking industry, and wall street despite their greedy cash grabs and ensuing economic tanking were bailed out, and most are under investigation now, with many paying millions of $$ back in fines to the American Government and people. It IS a shame none of the players have gone to jail YET as they should have. Let us not forget the obstructionist Republicans in the House, who for the better part blocked anything he tried to do. Some Republicans said from the moment he was sworn in, they would not support anything he proposed or work with him. Man that's open minded and in the best interest of Americans right? Remember Obama was the only President to tackle gay rights and marriage. He was the ONLY President in over 50 years that had the balls to put forward the divisive health care issue, and try to help less fortunate Americans, that the previous cowards all avoided for fear of losing votes. After over 65 attempts by the Republicans to reverse it, Let's see what they do now that it's implementation has occurred, and most Americans have joined and like it. Will they risk the furor of the American people and terminate it now they have control of the House and Senate? Not likely, because Obama will veto it, and then in 2016 can blame him. yes Obama has made many mistakes but it isn't ALL his fault. Look at the House with an 18% approval rating for their lack of action on issues, BUT MOST got re-elected. How do you explain that? All Republican or Democrats, should have been turfed to send a message to them by the dumb ass voters. Remember Sandy Hook and the Presidents efforts to do something about gun control, but all of them are more concerned with their NRA votes in the next election...cowards. Remember Republican George W Bush and his poor performance, and what he left Obama. In 2016 we will see, perhaps by then, America will remember some of the facts if raised, but I'm not holding my breath lol! You are so swayed by dirty negative TV ads and fear mongering, and short on remembering the facts. If one thing Obama has been poor in demonstrating front and center, it's his accomplishments. The Republicans and the media have done a remarkable job on "spin" in this election. Good luck USA, you get the Government you deserve and ask for. As an impartial Canadian political junkie looking in, I tend to remember the facts for more than 10 minutes.

I'm with Mikey on this one. I fight on the front lines for my country and the freedoms it offers. When something doesn't work and their approach makes things MUCH WORSE - it's time for a change. The people have spoken.......

Money wins again, I wish that our "representatives" would consider representing the people, but they are too busy worrying about their own careers. Now that this election is over they can all concentrate on how to win in 2016. VERY SAD!
