All people should be free to express their individuality

Iâ??ve met so many binary people in the trans community who dismiss gender nonconforming AMAB people merely as â??guys who like to play dressupâ?? or â??transvestic fetishistsâ??. It gets very discouraging having my identity persistently invalidated by such generalizations â?? by another minority no less. Itâ??s almost as harmful and counterproductive as bisexual erasure in the gay community.

There is this overwhelming misconception by certain binary trans people (in particular transgender women) that if an AMAB person doesnâ??t transition or experience body dysphoria, then he is forbidden from wearing â??womenâ??s clothesâ?? because otherwise he is nothing more than a cisgender man appropriating the lived experiences of trans women and diminishing their struggles with oppression.

I think it is ridiculous that just because I donâ??t adopt a different label for my identity that I am some how perpetuating transphobic violence and discrimination against trans women. I experience hatred and intolerance on a routine basis: Iâ??ve been harassed, battered, and even raped many times specifically because I am gender nonconforming.

Simply put, I cannot relate to a dichotomy of masculinity vs. femininity. So why do I need to be forcibly bound up in stereotypes of a binary gender system just because closed-minded trans people assume I am just â??a cis dude in a dressâ???

It's rough being yourself, but totally worth it as I'm sure you know :) Be ready to defend yourself against those trannies and other LGBT community members who openly criticize or trivialize your ways. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that most of the population, of any sexual preference, is going to be only minimally aware of all those distinctions you're making. It's like facebook having 150 genders; it's great for those who want to use them, but you can't really blame the mainstream for being ignorant about each and every one. It would be like criticizing you for your lack of knowledge about rocket science, you know? Theodore Roosevelt said "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Be prepared to whoop ass, but you'll do more to persuade those to a side of understanding with softer rhetoric.

What you point out is a very valid set of issues. It is one of the more troubling and unfortunately still under the surface issues in the LGBTQ community. Particularly for discriminated groups, the desire to hold their identity as sacred is almost fundamental. And our inability to see the world through any lens except our own is what so often causes discord and antipathy. Unfortunately is often part of human nature. All we can do is be true to ourselves, and hope through education and by being authentic that we can help others to understand that your lens, and my lens are both right and to honored. Don't let the anger which is often masking fear to force you to be anything other than who you are. But also understand that it comes with risks as well. Like all things in our lives there is the good, the bad and the ugly. Stay true.

BE YOU! Cd's transgendered/transsexual people are dissed by st8's and even get shunned by members of the LGBT community sometimes. Be you my friend, you have nothing to apologise for or explain to anyone else. It's hard to explain peoples ignorance, and often we all have to let insensitive comments roll off, and we just move forward in the direction that is best for ourselves. Hugz Ron xoxo
