Man of the day - Brigham Young.....

June 1st is the birthday of religious leader Brigham Young, president of the Latter Day Saints Church, (Mormans) and he was the successor of Joseph Smith. He had anywhere from 27 to 55 wives, depending on the referenced source. He was arrested for bigamy in 1871. The promotion of polygamy was just one controversial doctrine of the Book of Morman. In the Book of Morman dark skin is a sign of Godâ??s curse, while white skin is a sign of his blessing. When the Lamanites displease God, â??because of their iniquityâ?¦.the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon themâ?? (2 Nephi 5:21). Later, when the Lamanites become Christians, â??their curse was taken from them, and their skin became white like unto the Nephitesâ?? (3 Nephi 2:15). Other racist passages in the scripture have simply been changed by Mormon authoritiesâ??e.g., 2 Nephi 30:6, which originally referred to conversion to Christianity bringing about a â??white and delightsome people,â?? now reads, as of 1981, â??a pure and delightsome people.â?? As for black people, Joseph Smith taught that they are cursed as â??sons of Cain.â?? Brigham Young stated: â??Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be soâ?? (Journal of Discourses, vol. 10). Since blacks were a stigmatized race in Mormonism, black men were denied ordination to the priesthood in the LDS Church. While the LDS Church, under pressure, finally granted black men the priesthood in 1978, the racism in their Scriptures remains as offensive as ever. Note: The doctrine that black skin is a punishment was renounced by the Church hierarchy in December 2013.

Mormanism is all bullshit, not just the racist bullshit part of it. Mormanism is the Scientology of the nineteenth century. But then again all religion is bullshit so I don't suppose it's any wackier than any of the others.

If I recall, the Osmonds are Mormons too and were when Brigham Young was spouting that racist bullshit.
