It's all about dominance and submission. Actually it is very homoerotic. I'm not much of a football fan myself, but it does seem to be a major outlet for masculine energy in our culture. I remember in second grade we were playing flag football in gym class. This really cute guy caught the ball so I jumped on his back and tackled him. Everyone started shouting that it was flag football, not tackle! I think I knew that, but it was just an automatic reflex lol. They had to pry me off him!

Yes, it is a rough game and both the owners and the players union are well aware of the concussion problem and they are working to curtail the violence however, owners make good money, players make good money so the progress will be slow because neither side wants to damage the product and take a chance of reducing the money coming in. The players are after all adults and they should know the risks of the career they have chosen. As for the game not being to technical I think you way under appreciate everything that goes into building a successful team. There is a giant amount of team work involved, players have to be in certain zones at certain times and all the while they are running this intricate plan of attack, there is an equal number of players on the other team trying to disrupt it. Attempting to get a ball to arrive in the hands of your receiver 40 yards down the field half a second ahead of the defender that is chasing him is no easy task, and you have to do it while you’re on the run from 300 pound guys whose goal is to pancake you to the field, it takes a fair amount of guts and ability.

No it's not as they wear all the protection. However the better game is Rugby Union which the USA is getting into more these days like the rest of the world. The USA also plays in the world series of the IRB Rugby Sevens and the USA tournament is in a couple of weeks in Las Vegas

It is way too violent. Glorifies wiping out the other guy before he wipes you out. Repeated concussions can lead to permanent brain damage. More dangerous than boxing.
