Had my first day of medical school today
Gross anatomy lecture at 0630 then lab until 2PM dissecting our cadaver - upper shoulder girdle. Â I smell so nasty. Â Test already this friday. Â Lol, I'm already so far behind.

Definitely not as bad as my first day of anatomy class. Horrible stench, 37ºC heat, dust everywhere due to a construction on the building, absolute hell. Still worthy though, anatomy is one of the coolest subjects at university.

Thanks Joel for your iron stomach! We need people like you, doctors who don't get (especially) sick normally from looking inside live bodies & inside dead bodies. Best of luck to you in your studies and in your future career!

LOL A long time ago I was doing some work at a university and they had a course on pathology. So during the remodel the cadaver coolers had to be removed the professor told the crew not to look inside the ice chest"s well one of the workers did and was looking at three human heads missing eyes skin he never came back lol. AND then when all the work was done I had to go back the university found some hazardous material dripping from the ceiling, when I walked into the room with the health and safety director their was three dead bodies on tables and split wide open and man the stink was almost to much I could not get out of there fast enough. And the drip was from condensation dripping from a cold water line. Any way have fun lol in the class

My son graduated med school in May, and has started his residency, a 7 year program in neurosurgery.

Ick. I've always wondered where human cadavers come from for med students to dissect. I guess if on a person's "I'll donate my body to science," card it doesn't specify just specific organs etc., then the entire corpse can be used for dissection / samples / transplantation / etc. But I've wondered about, like if a criminal's sentenced to death, and dies in prison before the sentence is carried out, does his body "revert to the state" and become eligible for sale/donation to med-schools? If you know.
