The only rational response to the 2016 election is strategic voting. If you live in a state that is solidly blue or red, then you have the luxury of voting your conscience. Since I live in a very blue state, I'll be able to cast my ballot for the Green Party candidate, Dr. Jill Stein, without any worries that my vote will give the win to Trump. If I lived in a toss-up state, however, I would cast my vote, with immense revulsion, for Hillary. But we need to be clear here. A Hillary Clinton presidency gives progressives nothing to look forward to. We absolutely know that she is a war hawk, a tool of the Israeli lobby, and a whore for Wall Street. She has accepted huge campaign contributions from the fracking industry and the privatized prison conglomerates. She boasts of her admiration and affection for Henry Kissinger, a major war criminal, and often seeks his advice on foreign policy issues. In a year of rising progressive hopes, she selected a conservative as her vice presidential running mate. She is a self-described "Goldwater Girl." She is both an enabler and an attack dog for her slimy serial rapist husband. Above all, we know that she is a habitual liar, and thus none of the promises she has made to win over the supporters of Bernie Sanders should be taken at face value. And four years from now, after she's expanded the wars in the Middle East, engaged in nuclear brinksmanship with Russia and China, done another 180 degree backflip on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, approved the Keystone pipeline, and shoved economic austerity programs down the throats of middle and working class Americans while Wall Street records record profits, and the Republican presidential nominee is Ted Cruz, a figure even more noxious than Donald Trump, progressives will once again be coerced into supporting an extremely evil "lesser evil." Maureen Dowd of the New York Times got it right this week when she wrote that "the Republicans have the perfect nominee--Hillary Clinton." What a country!
