He and Captain Chaos (Dom D.) will be missed. He is a few of the last greats still with us!

Smokey and Cannonball Run were a lot of fun. His performances in The Longest Yard and Deliverance were exceptional.

Sorry to hear of his passing.
He had a distinguished career, rising to fame in "Deliverance", reaching superstardom in the 'Smokey and the Bandit' films, and was the Number 1 box office star between 1976 and 82.
Reynolds, unlike most who reach the dizzy heights of Number 1 at the box office, was able to play a vast range of parts; a football player in 'The Longest Yard' and 'Semi Tough'; comedy in 'Lucky Lady' and 'Cannonball Run'; a divorced man rebuilding his life in 'Starting Over'; a police officer in 'Hustle' and 'Sharky's Machine'; a jewel thief in 'Rough Cut'; a porn director in 'Boogie Nights'.
As with many who reach the top Reynolds was the victim of envy by others. When he was recovering from an injury suffered making the movie "City Heat" (which made him look quite 'emaciated' in many scenes in the movie "Stick") nasty rumors circulated claiming he had AIDS.
Being at the height of the AIDS scare of the mid 1980s this proved highly damaging to Reynolds career; three flops in a row and his movie career seemed over until his comeback in 'Switching Channels' in 1988. This he followed up with a highly popular TV show 'Evening Shade'.
Although he never came close to repeating his 1970s popularity, Reynolds was regularly working in movies and TV right until the end (his final movie is still in the post production stage), with only a handful of projects which can be considered flops.
His personal life was a bit more complicated with illness, a messy divorce in 1993, a couple of bankruptcies, losing his house in 2011, and being plagued by heart problems for many years which finally claimed his life.
By all accounts he was a genuinely nice guy, very professional and good to work with on set, always had a nice word to say about everyone. Reynolds was also quick - and first - to make fun of himself, most notably in the hilarious movie "A Bunch Of Amateurs"Â (a washed up Hollywood movie star, desperate for acting work, goes to England to appear in a production of King Lear at a village theater), which is basically a satire of.... Burt Reynolds.
So one of the great, iconic, Hollywood movie stars is gone; he entertained millions, managing to do so without engaging in political statements and self serving virtue signalling, and will be missed.
Definitely one of the best, anybody who says otherwise, there will be hell toupee.
