A better, more positive Tumblr

A better, more positive Tumblr

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the ❤️ of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including ???? pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our ???? becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help ???? and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we ???? in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we ???? Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the ????. Our actions are out of ???? and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

Tumblr clone: blogr.xxx You can even import your tumbler blog into it!

The site seems to be relatively new/little used, but it does have potential. It allows NSFW content. I signed up today and posted some stuff - we'll see where it goes. Spread the word, let's build a BETTER tumblr ourselves.

06/12/2018 : I did random visits to Tumblr blogs and collected many pics and GIFs and became well aware of the main complaint there - getting 'nuked'. The rum thing was that all the material is on the Tumblr database, so if they wanted to 'clean' their site, start at home !

One particular blog caught my attention. I bookmarked it and followed it for a year (up to 2015), but there was no updates, probably due to the busy lifestyle of its author. I also copied his 'blurb' into a notepad and I will share it here as it neatly summarises the hypocritical attitude of Tumblr, then as much as now. The last paragraph nails it.

Just some stuff I like

Hi I'm 14 and like almost every sport [yea I can even watch golf and like it] I play lots of sports but can watch just about anything so I am going to post pics of things I like Baseball, Basketball, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Soccer, Swimming, Track and anything else I can think of. The thing is I am 14 and I like sports pics of people around my age and Tumblr seems to hate kids or at least pics of kids so I will probably get deleted here so don't get used to seing me on here because Tumblr won't let me stay very long. The thing that I think is funny about Tumblr is if I posted a porn blog I would stay on here longer but I don't like porn so I don't want a porn blog so I will try to stay on for as long as Tumblr lets me and then I will disappear like every other person my age does.

Words of advice to parents….Hide ur children away from everyone until they are at least 18 years old, dont let them play sports or go to school especially on picture days, holiday family photos should never be taken, do not let them be friends with anyone that owns a camera and to be safe you should never let them leave the house because they may end up in the background of a picture that someone else takes. Because if a picture of your child ever winds up on a site like tumblr then some perverted person will find it sexual and report it to tumblr and the mods will decide that the picture of your child is inappropriate and ban the person that posted it.

Think about it parents, if a picture is banned as inappropriate that was posted on a site then isnt the person guilty of taking pictures that are illegal? Please parents buy your child a PS3 and lots of videos and music and lots of snacks make them stay inside eat and get fat. Destroy all of your family photos that have your children in them so there is never a chance that a picture of your child ends up on the internet and if you do allow them to go outside remember you could  end up in trouble if they go to a pool on a hot summer day and actually dress appropriately [consider loose fitting scuba wet suits instead of swim suits], if they ever play a sport like basketball or tennis then a picture of them in shorts could be inappropriate [consider snow suits and a ski mask] dont let them cut the grass or rake the leaves in anything revealing, [cover them head to toe and leave a small opening for them to breath and to see] so no inappropriate picture can be taken. If anyone is ever near your child with a camera take the camera away and destroy the memory stick or the camera so no one ever sees a picture that your child might be in.

The world is filled with sick minded people that find something dirty in everything they see and lots of them are on sites like tumblr and sites like tumblr encourage these sick people by deleting anything that their sick mind doesnt like. It makes these perverted sick minded people feel powerful and so they just troll around looking for anything they can report like kids playing cricket or rugby. So please parents dont ever allow your children to go outside until they are old enough to leave home for good and what ever you do dont ever take a picture of them!

BTW my last tumblr was deleted because I posted a picture that my mother took of me at a swimming pool [it had to be that picture because it was the only picture I had on my tumblr that had a human in the picture] In the eyes of tumblr  I guess they would consider those pictures child porn because they decided the pictures my mother took of her son swimming were inappropriate. So to keep my family safe in the eyes of the trolls that spend there days looking for something bad in everything they see I should tell all of my relatives to destroy any picture that they have taken of me, my sister and brother and my cousins.

You should all do the same!
