He died early in 1960 at the age of 49 and there's still a large fan club today that celebrates his life and artistry.

This song of Rudy Vallée blew me away when I first heard it.  (In the end-credits of "My Own Private Idaho."  It was also featured in "Bonnie and Clyde".)

John McCormack was a fabulous singer.  Unfortunately I don't think the recording methods of the time really captured his sound very well.  Anyhow, in honor of St. Patrick's Day, here's McCormack singing "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling":
