What's your favorite musical?
Gay guys are supposed to love musicals, so what are some of your favorites?
Of the current musicals, I love "Dear Evan Hansen" even though I haven't seen it, But I do have the CD and have also read the book.
Of past musicals, I have many favorites like "La Cage aux Folles" and "Kismet".
Another favorite of mine is Roger Miller's 'Big River' which I've now seen for about the 5th time, this time at a small theater in Sanford, NC. For those not familiar with it, it's the Huckleberry Finn story. Roger Miller was a country-western singer and songwriter famous for songs like "Trailer For Sale or Rent" and "Dang Me". I'm constantly amazed that he could write such music for a Broadway musical and one song after another is just amazing. If you haven't heard it or seen it, believe me you should!
Once Upon a Mattress. Because Carol Burnett did it (was Winifred), and because I was in it at 20-1/2, summer between my junior & senior years at college. (I was no one, I was Knight #1 I think, the one who caught Dauntless' lyre when he was through & tossed it. I had a crush on Prince Dauntless, plus became friends with the silent King — their actors I mean.)
...and Newsies! ...and Annie!
Moonwalker! :)
One musical we love and go to whenever it comes around is 'Spamalot'. I wish they'd make a movie of it.
Chairs
Most of Sondheim's oeuvre--particularly Sweeney Todd, Pacific Overtures, Sunday in the Park with George, and Follies.
Oliver. The movie w/ Mark Lester and Jack Wild was great!
Phantom of the opera
Mama Mia.
