For the member's privacy I'm not going to say who sent me this message but it's a very good question. My answer follows his question in quotation marks.

"Then why did Freddie Mercury die if AZT was so successful?      What about people who are rumored to have died from A.I.D.S. such as PRINCE and David Bowie?"

First of all, never believe rumors. Second. HIV just like with Hep C and other viral diseases there can be many genotypes of one virus where a med that works against one or several genotypes may not work against another or several. Hep C is now so curable that many in he med field refer to it as 100% curable but up until a couple of yrs ago genotype 4 was only at the 85% mark, now it's right up there at well over 99%

Keep in mind that when Freddie Mercury passed away there were very few options as far as meds go. His genotype could have been either nonresponsive to what was available or he could have forgotten to take 3 or 4 doses in a month. Back in those days missing as few as 2 doses in a month would cause the genotype to mutate and then the med wouldn't work. Todays meds are far more forgiving to missed doses and there are so many different meds on the market that if one if one no longer work for whatever reason another one will. Todays meds also work in different ways to prevent entrance into the CD4 receptor and or prevent the CD4 from replicating the virus. One CD4 can manufacture and release into the blood stream up to 4,000 copies of the virus in 24 hours. Some people with advanced AIDS have a viral load of upwards of 3 million copies in what amounts to 1/4 tsp of blood. The higher the viral load the fewer the copies of T cells (CD4s). I personally know someone who was at the very end stages of AIDS (he and his partner moved up here to be with family when they died, his partner died), his T cell count was described by his Dr as less than 2. Normal for a healthy person is between 800 and 1,200 per 1/4 tsp of blood.

Thank you all for discussing all of this.   I still hope everyone contribute their experiences and thoughts concerning this just so we can all learn.

Never . And neither  did he.. I was the bottom so the tops should wear the condom .. I never heard of condoms until I was sixteen .. by then I was already hooked on bareback sex .. when a person put a condom on and went to fuck me with it on it felt wierd and I liked to see it and told him if wanted to fuck me  he had to toss it aside.. he tossed it aside and fucked me

Years later and many dicks later(( never counted but it’s a lot).  By time I turned 15 I prob already been ducked by 12 maybe 13 guys and some more than once ..

so years later still negative not to mention never caught any other std’s .. was fucked by a few guys they would say they were poz  and I never tested poz so I figured they lied to me just to scare me

"Wearing" a condom as opposed to "using" one has set my imagination off.  Never thought of them as fashion items.

In the end you have to do the research, look at the numbers, assess the risk factor and make up your own mind. Never trust or take for granted anyone's word when it comes their HIV status. There are now two drugs, Truvada and Descovy which are approved for use as PrEP. Both of them can be as close to 100% effective as possible when it comes to efficacy but the most important factor is that you can't skip doses here and there, you can't.

Not liking to wear a condom plays a major role in HIV prevention and was given respectful consideration in a HIV/STI prevention Seminar held this past November here in SLO. For some people a condom on a penis is equivalent to a latex sex toy. Some are just plain turned off by it's presence and sexual desire melts like an ice cube in a pot of boiling water. I am one of those who would just as soon count the acorns on an oak tree as have sex with a condom involved. It is a very real and valid reason for those of us who don't like condoms and need the feeling of skin on skin contact. it's not just all about scratching an itch on the tip of a penis. So no, even considering the work I'm involved in I do not like wearing a condom.

I was in my late teens and had a sexual adventure with an older guy who had a bad reputation as being a former rent boy and slut. I caught gohnoreah (I think) but I had to be on antibiotics for 4 weeks and celibate for another 6. After that, I always know more about a "Hookup" than they know about themselves and wear condoms as needed.

Never.  Just didn't have sex with strangers.
