Summer in the city...

A street musician defies the war and plays with "sadness and grim determination" under a bright blue sky in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, as the photographer writes.

Burning rain...

First the container depot in Bangladesh was on fire - then there was a bang. The blast was so loud it shook homes several kilometers from the depot. Heavy objects were sometimes thrown hundreds of meters away, "balls of fire" appeared in the sky that fell like burning rain. The authorities speak of dozens dead and hundreds injured.

Royal cardboard...

She herself was unable to attend the thanksgiving service for her 70th jubilee at St Paul's Cathedral because she "didn't feel quite well" after the first day of the celebrations. Queen Elizabeth II was still present. In spirit, probably - and as a cardboard cutout. The Platinum Jubilee ends with a parade in London on Sunday...and maybe with a very special bang...

Precious water...

It's raining in Abidjan, the metropolis of West African Côte d'Ivoire. Opportunity for a man in this settlement under a bridge construction site to hold a bowl out of the window and collect rainwater. According to government figures, more than 80 percent of the people in Ivorian cities now have access to drinking water - but by no means all ot them.

Where are they?

The faces on the posters are duplicated: the silent march in Uruguay's capital Montevideo commemorates 197 people who disappeared without a trace under the right-wing military dictatorship (1973-1985). The protesters carry 22,000 portraits of the victims so that the relatives don't just ask about their whereabouts. The state must finally clarify...

Innocent suffering victims of a brutal dictator's unjust war receiving shelter and aid. I put off an expensive repair job on my car because I gave in order to help. My heart breaks when I see the suffering of little children and innocents. I didn't post this to blow smoke up my ass for giving. I posted it to draw attention to the fact that anyone can give, at least something to help these poor people.

We all get to crawl into our comfy warm beds at the end of the day. Where will the long lines of refugees sleep tonight?

Ringing of bells to commemorate...

A commemorative bell hangs on the 20th anniversary of the killing spree at Erfurt's Gutenberg-Grammar-School. At that time, 16 people died, initially eleven teachers, a trainee teacher, two students and a police officer. The 19-year-old perpetrator Robert S., a former student at the school, then killed himself. The bell pictured, which includes the silhouette of the school, was installed at the school in 2017 to commemorate the terrible act.
