Does it matter if companies make spelling, grammatical or other language errors?
Sigh...I try so hard to not to get peeved by some things... I really do. But today I had to make a call to my energy provider and was on hold in the queue on the phone for a customer adviser for 20 mins. In between bursts of some radio station playing, every minute it came up with a (pleasant enough) male voice saying "We are currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes at present. Thank you for your patience".
Â
I mean, the wait wasn't exhausting my patience at all. A couple of the songs on the radio we're crap but, whew, at least they played Gary Neuman's 'Cars' so that was a pick-me-up.Â
Â
But this voice message was driving me to despair. Is there something wrong with me that I was desperate for them to EITHER say they were currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes OR that they were experiencing higher than normal call volumes at present. This complete logical redundancy of saying BOTH in the same sentence was just really really really depressing me more than such an issue should.
Â
Yet it's the same when I go to a place (like Argos here in the UK) and order some item. I can see a sign on the wall telling me the procedure for ordering and 'claiming you're purchase'.......
Â
I mean, I know it doesn't matter, not really, but it drives me crazy......
"...off of..."Â
Wrong for over 400 years. Even your own dictionary says so.

Me too! I hate it when people write loose when they mean lose. One of my local malls has just changed hands and on its website it says 'formally known as'. No! It's 'formerly known as'. Grr
a very wise woman once said "don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff'" i refer to this saying often in todays wild goings on !

That may be true, dididial, but it's all the details with which society is built and depends on for stability. It always bothers me when a voice-over in an ad or a news reporter says "less," for example, when they should say "fewer" or that one can save "40% off" rather than just "save 40%." Or "There's 5 witnesses...," which should be "There are..."Â And don't get me started on redundancies...
