Do you guys think the adult age should be increased to 25?

HenryTurner Blog Last Activity 1 year ago 818 views 17 comments

This post is especially relevant to most of the Americans here. okay, so there has been a serious ton of gun violence among young adults and teenagers in the United States, over past the few years, and lots of people, especially Democrats, have been loudly calling for the adult age to be increased to 25. I was kind of against this, because it means that voting age would also likely be increased to 25, and that would make some people here not able to vote either, but now with so much neverending violence everywhere, I'm not sure any longer.

What do you guys think about this, what are some of the pros or cons?? Do you guys think this violence can be prevented in the future somehow??

Australian weighing in. Sounds like guns are everywhere in America and it doesn't matter what age you are. If you want a gun bad enough you'll get one.

We got rid of most guns here in Australia - we have farmers chill out.

And you can get one if you want. It's just super fuckin difficult

Guns are evil

As a guy who somehow survived a gun violence incident, I actually would love to see it extended until at least age 175 years.

I hadn't heard that, but I did hear that Dems want to DECREASE voting age to 16! SERIOUSLY!!!??? w00t As for guns, it's my understanding that it's not law-abiding gun owners who are the problem, it's mostly illegal guns, and the way to solve that is better enforcement of the laws we have, imho.

Widespread gun ownership is the problem.  Most of the rest of the world bans private gun ownership and has far fewer gun killings as a consequence.  US folk seem to believe their freedom is wrapped up in the right to own guns.  Do they really believe that the rest of the world isn’t free because they can’t own guns?  As my favourite political philosopher, Hobbes, wrote centuries ago:  life in the state of nature (every man for himself) is “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short”.  That’s why you need a strong central state with “a monopoly of violence”, to keep the peace.

"Widespread gun ownership is the problem."

No it isn't.

It’s not an age issue, it’s a maturity issue or mental issue. There ENOUGH gun laws already that aren’t being enforced. Also, Criminals aren’t saying “oh, I’m not old enough to buy a gun so I have to wait until I’m old enough to buy a gun”. They don’t care about laws otherwise they wouldn’t be criminals

they already want to treat boys as young as 12 as adults in the court system--for crimes committed-- but yet you are wanting to raise the age up to 25--to buy alcohol--cigarrettes--guns--

as for military--18 and up is fine ages --where other countries take their boys at put them in for war as young as 13--the more to fight the better

teens as young as 13/14 already sneak around smoking and drinking and when get caughtit begins a life of them breaking the law--when i think the drinking part should be lowered and monitored by adults instead of them sneaking around doing it

I don't see a direct relation between the age at which your are allowed to buy a gun, when you are allowed to vote, or when you can be called an adult. These are all very different and therefore independent things.

Most people can take responsibility for, and are in control of, their own lives when they are between 16 and 22 years old.

Politics also affects young people, and they should not be disenfranchised. Let them vote.

Guns, on the other hand, are tools to badly hurt other beings, and should be a rarity. Society doesn't need an arms race.

I think you will have another insurrection if you try.

It's called standards and values.    No army swooping down in jets or legions of lawyers or lying predator politicians are going to fix this situation.     Well...that and mental illness.     So, yeah, it's not just the smoking, drinking, and DRUGS, hello.     No point in even discussing this any further until people not only discuss this but get it.

Listen, the rest of us not in these blue tyrannical cities (remember there are no blue states other than California which is understood to be a lost cause at this point) sit in absolute awe how they don't learn, care, or understand any facets of life and reality so you might want to address what THAT is all about first.

1.Regulate private gun sales.

2.Reinstate stop and frisk law in crime ridden areas.

3.Increase the penalties for unlicensed gun carry and unlicensed gun possession.

4.Require gun safety classes for gun ownership.

5.Require gun safety locks or gun safes for households with children.

1--nope it shouldnt be raised to 25 it should be lowered to 15--they are already prosecuting  15 and 16 yr olds as adults for the crimes they committ--at least then their crimes cant be locked up  from 18 and up  but 15 and up

2---the number of shooting is staggering since so many of them are teenagers 13 to 18--but statisticly more shooting are done by people over 18 and alot are racially motivated--one white guy shoots up a store because of all the  colored people that were allowed to shop there--

where i live at crimes are done by guys near 30 up into their 40s--drugs or guys screwing another guys wife--one guy walked into a restaurant one day shot his wife twice--tossed the gun down and walked out like it was nothing he was 42

if people would notice things and report sudden changes in people moods or attitudes  there be less shit going on--if notice alot will say they knew he was oing target practice in his back yard--or he bought powerful guys made for mass killing--its sad people will report this stuff after the guy has done what he did

There is not a rash of shootings by white people because a bunch of black people shopped at a shop!       Stop it!     :)       I'd be willing to bet you can count on one or two hands how many times that has even happened!    Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!     Listen.   If you don't want to mention the black on black genocide going on then we shan't.

sure there is the black on black crimes that go on--but if you look you will see that there is more crime committed by white caucasian men--
