The Hanging Garden (1997)
The Hanging Garden is a British Canadian drama film, written and directed by Thom Fitzgerald and was released in 1997.
William was once an obese depressed adolescent. He developed a crush on another local teen boy.
What he thought was a romance ended in a devastating rejection, which caused William to attempt to take his own life.
Surviving the incident, William is now returning home to attend his friend's wedding years later.
The memories of the past begin to haunt him, while these memories also tell a story of what had led up to this point.
This is one great little film. It focuses on coming out and some of the struggles that come with it.

"Surviving the incident" Or perhaps not. The movie could be taken in two different ways. The other way is that the adult version of William is just the family's fantasy, that he hadn't died and had just been "away in the city" for ten years.
